Please don't make duplicate posts - I have merged your new topic into the old one. Did you have any updates on adding that comment to stop Nagios from using its embedded perl interpreter? You want to add a line to the top of the file that reads exactly like this:

# nagios: -epn
and that line needs to be in the first 10 lines of the file.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.
Info for USB installs on http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/InstallFromUSBkey
CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.

i did try to add the comment first to use then not to use and the status of the host still responinding 'service check did not exit properly'

the update surely has caused this issue.
