Re: why yum atkes i386 (duplicate) packages for my x86_64 c5 (WTF is c5?)?
Since you are using ?c5?, then you should ask the question in a ?c5? forum? We don't usually answer trixbox, etc. question here (someone even asked a debian dpkg question the other day), so why should ?c5? be any different? :-D
...but it's probably because firefox.i386 resolves a dependency.
Having i386 packages in an x86_64 installation is normal.
Want a shock? Run:
# yum list installed *.i386
Re: why yum takes i386 (duplicate) packages for my x86_64 c5 (c5==centos?!?!!)?
Excuse the newb'ed,
But isn't this the place for Centos "Application & Software Support",
or isn't yum an application / software?...
Yet, 10x for the answer!

You have firefox 32-bit for a number of reasons, for examples running a 32-bit xen session or running in a 32-bit chroot jail.
Having both 32-bit and 64-bit packages are not duplicate packages, while the 32-bit will run on a 64-bit OS (with the required 32 libs in place) the 64-bit will not run on a 32-bit OS regardless of any 64-bit installed.
One can choose a purely a 64-bit environment or a purely 32-bit environment or a mixed mode environment (most choose this and is the default type of installation from the x86-64 media).

The other reason to specifically have firefox.i386 is so that you can use i386 plug-ins such as Flash Player, which, at least the last time I checked, was not available for firefox.x86_64. You also need to uninstall firefox.x86_64 to use the i386 plug-ins.
With 64-bit vista out, the plug-ins should catch up soon, but I always wondered, what do people running 64-bit vista do about this? It must be to install 32-bit firefox.
