video compressers

Post by mhrich » 2007/05/09 23:25:37

When I was still on Windows, there was a neat little free tool called DVDShrink that would take almost any ripped DVD and fit it into a single 4.3Gb file set suitable for writing to a single single-layer DVD. Is there anything like this for Linux?

Also, are there any good conversion programs that will convert from other video formats (mpg, mp4, wmv, avi, etc.) to DVD?

Thanks.

Depending on where you get it from, chances are best to use yum to install it because it will resolve the dependencies (usually). I hear good things about apt, too, although that's more a Debian (?) tool. I've had gppd results with yum so far.
