Hi to all. Has anyone installed Gimp 2.6.7 on Centos 5.3 as yet?

Re: Gimp 2.6.7 install
Welcome to the CentOS fora. The current CentOS release has gimp-2.2.13-2.0.7.el5 and none of the common 3rd party repos has a later version.

If you need a later version consider running Fedora, either in a virtual machine or on real iron - multi-boot or as an alternative to CentOS.

Re: Gimp 2.6.7 install
Hi All,
If it's any help, I've been able to run 2.4.7, available from
here.
You'll also need the compatible gimp-libs.
It seems to work fine, but I seem to recall that I needed to install a 2.4 version of gimp-help to get the help manual to work (not required for the gimp program, just required if you use the help manual feature, otherwise you can skip it.) I think you can rebuild this src.rpm (I have to admit I was lazy and just installed the fc7 rpm :-? , but a local rebuild is a better idea). I know this doesn't help with your question but maybe the 2.4 has the feature you're looking for that's absent in 2.2.
Cheers,

Re: Gimp 2.6.7 install
Can you say what's better in that version than the CentOS version? Perhaps a request to have it hosted by a 3rd party repo (or maybe even CentOSplus) is in order if it is a substantial improvement.

Good question. To be honest I'm not a GIMP super-user so for the things I use GIMP for, I think it is about the same. Generally I don't replace CentOS official packages but my wife was using GIMP a lot so, when I ran across an EL/CentOS binary of a newer version, I thought I'd install it, since GIMP is not a system critical package. It has worked great so far and it looks a little better than v2.2 but I don't know how much of an improvement it is on the utility front. Maybe someone else has used it more extensively and can comment?
Cheers,

P.S. Some info on the improvements in v2.4 can be found here.

Looks like he may have started with the Gimp peeps first:

This seems to be from someone who is very close to the newest version:

Looks like Yan Li needs to read http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/RebuildSRPM to learn about the "--nomd5" flag for newer Fedora SRPMS.
Thanks for the detective work.
