Cannot find a valid baseurl for repo: extras

I've been having prob. all day with repo, honestly. Ive been installing and updating the whole time, the latest now is this :

[Errno 4] I0Error:
Error: Cannot find a valid baseurl for repo: extras

This appeared as i typed in>
yum install xz

i'm using Centos 5.8

Help would be much appreciated!

Fix your name resolution. Check /etc/resolv.conf for valid nameserver lines. If behind a web proxy you'll need to use `man yum.conf` and look for proxy lines to add to /etc/yum.conf
