ServeRAID M1100 RAID 5 won't boot after Centos 5.10 install

Post by evds.ryan » 2014/12/07 09:43:01

Hi All,

I'm quite new to RAID configurations and CentOS. So here my problem.

I set up a RAID 5 with 4 x 1TB hard disk, after configuring this, I installed Centos 5.10 but when I rebooted the server it does not boot to CentOs.

I was quite successful in installing CentOS on the RAID1 settings.

Is there a different way in installing Centos when at RAID 5?

Hope someone can help me.

THanks!

Could you post the output of lspci -nn from the server in question?
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.

From the price it appears to be a software RAID controller.
You cannot boot from software RAID 5.
Actually, you can't boot at all from software RAID.
You can, however, boot from one member of a software RAID 1.
