CentOS 5.5 is old, deprecated, full of security bug and should not be used. If you must run CentOS 5 then at least run yum update to get to the latest (and last) 5.11. Be aware that all security updates for CentOS 5 will stop in March 2017 so you need to be planning your migration to something much newer before that.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.
