Cents OS 5.5 links to download complete ISO

Post by dematri » 2016/10/04 01:16:02

Team,

First of sorry, I`m new to CentOS or Linux world and thus may have some basic questions.

I`m looking for the ISO file that would allow install CentOS 5.5 on a server?
Can find the location for download -

http://vault.centos.org/5.5/isos/

but it has 2 folders:

i386
x86 - 64

To my understanding for Linux system, need to opt x86-64 folder.
Opening the folders gives a bunch of files, but cant find one ISO or TAR file that would unzip and install the OS.

Please help to understand how to get version 5.5 and installation from scratch.

Thanks in advance.

Please please please do not use CentOS 5.5. It was released in March 2010 so is now over 6 years old and has accumulated many many severe security vulnerabilities. In addition, CentOS 5 has less than 6 months of life lefft before it receives no more security updates at all. If you must install CentOS 5 then please use the media for 5.11 and run yum update once the install is complete to patch anything outstanding.

You can find the current iso images at http://isoredirect.centos.org/centos/5.11/isos/x86_64/
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.

Trevor,

Thanks for your response.

Reason to go with CentOS5.5

Our current production server is running CentOS 5.5 and the plan is to have another server with the same OS level, so later we can copy the data from the current Prod to the new server and have the secondary server as a stand by server in case of catastrophic situation.

Any option to get CentOS 5.5?

Take the opportunity to install 5.11 and test it so that you can upgrade your production server. No-one should run 5.5.
