Post by bala2066 » 2016/11/17 05:37:44

I am planning to upgrade Mysql 5.0 to Mysql 5.6 in CentOS 5.11.There are so many applications running on the server like mail server, webserver. Will this upgrade impact and of the applications running.Any dependencies will be there?... Points to note before upgrade? Kindly share your thoughts and advice on this.

My thought is that if you are going to go to the effort of migrating to a newer mysql then you would be better off investing that effort in migrating to a newer CentOS. CentOS 5 goes End of Life in March next year - less than 5 months time. After that there will be no more security updates for it and it will become progressively less and less safe to run. Why not take this opportunity to plan your migration to CentOS 7 (EOL date 2024) or CentOS 6 (EOL 2020).
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.

Will this upgrade impact and of the applications running.
Possibly. How do the apps interact with the DB?
Any dependencies will be there?
In what way? Dependencies of the application(s)? Well that's the responsibility of the application(s). What do you mean?
Points to note before upgrade?
Make 100% sure you have a backup that you can restore of the application(s) data.
