Cannot install software

Post by ooleyguy » 2017/04/22 13:56:49

I am using CentOS release 5.5 (Final) with a Trixbox PBX software on it. I need to install a TFTP server on it to provision IP phones but am getting this error.

Code: Select all

[trixbox1.localdomain ~]# yum install tftp-server
Loaded plugins: fastestmirror, kmod
Loading mirror speeds from cached hostfile
YumRepo Error: All mirror URLs are not using ftp, http[s] or file.
 Eg. Invalid release/
removing mirrorlist with no valid mirrors: /var/cache/yum/addons/mirrorlist.txt
Error: Cannot find a valid baseurl for repo: addons
[trixbox1.localdomain ~]#
I can ping outside sites.
yum clean all does nothing to fix the problem

My CentOS-Base.repo contains the following:

Code: Select all

# CentOS-Base.repo
#
# This file uses a new mirrorlist system developed by Lance Davis for CentOS.
# The mirror system uses the connecting IP address of the client and the
# update status of each mirror to pick mirrors that are updated to and
# geographically close to the client. You should use this for CentOS updates
# unless you are manually picking other mirrors.
#
# If the mirrorlist= does not work for you, as a fall back you can try the
# remarked out baseurl= line instead.

There are other repos in there but they are related to the TrixBox.

Thank you for any assistance.

1) CentOS 5 is dead
2) CentOS 5.5 is deader still and has been dead since the release of 5.6 in 2011
3) Since CentOS 5 is now out of support, all its repos have been moved to vault.centos.org

You are running a system that is severely out of date and riddled with high severity security vulnerabilities. You should point your repo files to the archived content on vault.centos.org and yum update to get your system to the last available 5.11 version. Then you should start the process of replacing CentOS 5 with a newer version. Since CentOS 6 enters what's known as "Production Phase 3" in about 1 month, (only critical severity bugs will be fixed) you should probably skip 6 and go straight to 7.

Do not run CentOS 5 for longer that is necessary to migrate to a newer version. It's out of support, will receive no more updates of any sort and already has high severity vulnerabilities that will never be fixed. Start your migration process ASAP.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.

Thank you for your assistance. I have explained this to my client and let them know that I could install the Asterix PBX software on a newer version of Linux that used the same hardware as this current box. They seem to think that their firewall protects them. Their bosses are based in Germany and won't budget the time or money to come up with a new solution, since they seem to think that free, open-source software should live forever. Oh well, it won't be my problem after a few months.
