FAIL TO INSTALL CentOS 5.5 in TYAN MOBO

Post by Davidlin » 2017/05/23 01:53:59

Hi all,

im trying to install Centos 5.5 to Tyan Motherboard S5542 with spec as follow:
CPU: Xeon E3-1275 v6
RAM 16 GB
Storage: 120GB x2 SSD(RAID 1)

The installation start with the graphical mode and stop at the page to choose language options. Both of my USB keyboard and mouse are not functioning.

Is there a way for me to add USB driver into the ISO file and install the OS to my machine?

Thanks

First off, CentOS 5 is now End of Life and should not be used.

Second, you're trying to install 5.5 which came out in early 2010 on a machine that is brand new so its hardware is 7 years newer than the o/s you are trying to install. There will be many things that are unknown and just do not have support in the distro.

If you absolutely must use CentOS 5 then at least try using the last version, 5.11, which is "only" 3 years old.

Mostly the advice is don't use CentOS 5. As CentOS 6 has already gone into Production Phase 3 where only critical security bugs will be fixed, the best thing would be to use CentOS 7.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.

My advice would be to install CentOS 7 on the machine, and if you need some application that for some reason will only run on CentOS 5 install it in a virtual machine, preferably without any outside networking so it's not vulnerable to possible network intrusion.
