Adaptec 3405 RAID Grief

Post by faromount » 2007/07/03 08:49:14

I am having extreme difficulties getting a new server built. Its a custom but nothing outlandish.

Intel P965 s775 mobo
Intel Core2Duo (1.86Ghz)
2GB Mem

Most Importantly

Adaptec 3405 Raid (SAS + SATA)
4 x Hitachi T7K500

The array built fine but I cannot find the correct driver disk for Centos 5 or alternatively 4.5.

Provided on CD and available from Adaptec is a collection of floppy images ( floppy, really???). Also the web site states that RHEL 4 and 5 are completely supported.
http://www.adaptec.com/en-US/products/sas_cards/value/SAS-3405/

In the support section though it states.
http://www.adaptec.com/en-US/speed/raid/aac/linux/aacraid_linux_driverdisks_v1_1_5-2442_tgz.htm

"AACRAID driver image files v1.1.5-2442 for 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3, 4, and 5, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 8, 9, and 10, and many others. There may be additional files included for some operating systems that are not officially supported such as United Linux, CENTOS and Fedora Core. These are provided for your convenience."

Within this download is this README.

I have tried Centos 5 install with
Centos-enterprise
Centos-ia32
Centos x86 64
FC
RHEL5

And Centos 4.5 install with above plus
RHEL all poss.

Also included is an aacraid-source file.

Should one of these work? Are my floppy drives nackered (I have tried multiple)? Is there a SOP with Driver disks that may trip up a hardware RAID linux noob? Could someone point me to a way of compiling the source code(never done that before)? Ny other resources I could check?

Any help grately appreciated.

FIXED. :-D :-D

MOBO problem not RAID card.

For those interested Intel 965 chipset can give serious grief at install. Need to add paramaters at boot time.

Hi at all,

does anyone know how to "install" the adaptec driver for CentOS 5. I have installed the rpm`s with "yum localinstall" command. In the package-manager the driver are listed as installed. But what is the next step to implemat the driver in the system.

Salut Dominique

p.s: Sorry for my english
