Hello everyone,
this is my first post in your forum. I'm not only new to the forum, I'm also new to CentOS.
I installed CentOS 5.10 (32 bit) on my Pentium 4 with 1,5 GB RAM. Recently I used Windows Server 2003...
I have to say that CentOS works really fine on this old machine and I had no problems to install all the programs and services that I need.
But now I need your help:
I have two network printers here, the EPSON AcuLaser C1100 and the EPSON AcuLaser M2000D. I would like to use this printers with CentOS, but there are no drivers in the pre-installed system. From Windows I'm directly printing to the IP adress (it's called "Standard TCP/IP-Port" with LPR protocol).
At the Epson web site I found two Linux drivers for the C1100:
AcuLaser C1100 for CUPS
AcuLaser C1100 for LPRng
For the M2000 there is only one driver:
EPSON PPD File for CUPS
(the drivers can be found here: http://download.ebz.epson.net/dsc/searc ... ch/?OSC=LX)
Now I need your help:
Which is the right driver for me?
What do I have to install the driver? How do I have to configure the driver that I can print on the IP adress of each printer?
It would be really nice if somebody could tell me step by step what I have to do...
Thanks and bye

Re: Install printer driver for EPSON AcuLaser C1100 and M200
Nobody wanted to help me, so I've done it on my own and it works now.
Here is the solution:
For the AcuLaser M2000 it is very easy: For this printer I installed the Generic PCL5e driver, because the printer knows this language. It works really fine, even the duplex print is no problem. I can print directly on the IP adress, using the URL "lpd://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx".
The AcuLaser C1100 needs the driver from the Epson page, there are two files needed:
1. Epson-ALC1100-filter-1.2-0.i386.rpm
2. Epson-ALC1100-filter-cups-1.2-0.i386.rpm
But first of all, I had to follow these instructions to install libstdc++.so.5:
viewtopic.php?t=10693
Then I had to install the two files above and now it's working.

It is more likely that nobody who read your post is using those printers than "Nobody wanted to help me".

Okay, this could be a reason, too.gerald_clark wrote:It is more likely that nobody who read your post is using those printers than "Nobody wanted to help me".

That plus making printers work is usually a case of poke'n'hope and trying various things until it works. Most of which can only be done by the user with the printer in front of them
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.
