Centos 5.11 and a PERC H330?

Post by lytespd » 2017/03/10 16:31:57

Is there any way to accomplish the install of 5.11 on a dell r430 with the H330 RAID controller? I know we should upgrade, legacy application will not work with 6.8 or 7.0. Help is much appreciated.

CentOS 5 goes EOL in just under 3 weeks so it's a stupid thing to do. There will be no more security updates for CetnOS 5 after March 31st.

If you have a legacy application that doesn't support el6 then that application is most likely broken and the chances that your vendor is ever going to port it to a newer version are slim. CentOS 6 has been available since 2010 and is about to enter Production Phase 3 itself (where only critical bugs are fixed). If they cannot get up off their fat ... to fix it to run on el6 in 7 years then they're highly unlikely to do so now.

If you really really MUST run this on el5 then I would recommend that you use RHEL 5 and purchase an EUS subscription. That will give you security updates for as long as you pay for the subscription or until RH stop EUS for el5 (2020 I think).

BTW, the H330 is rubbish. It has no cache.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.
