Hello everyone,
I have CentOS 5.11 installed right now because later versions aren't compatible with the software I need unfortunately. The laptop I use for this software has the Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205. I did manage to find the drivers here
However, the kernel version says 2.6.35+, and it seems 5.11 has 2.6.18. Is there a way to get this working? I tried the program on CentOS 6, and it does not currently work. It is an intensive program as well so I would rather not use a virtual machine. I also tried installing the drivers anyway and it does not seem to have worked.
Thanks in advance for any help
Intel Centrino 6205 Driver Support on Cent OS 5
Re: Intel Centrino 6205 Driver Support on Cent OS 5
Are you sure it's not already supported? Run lspci -nn | grep -i net to see the PCI vendor id and device id of the card (The vendor id is 8086!). Then run modinfo iwlagn and look for the device id in the output from that in the various lines like
Code: Select all
alias: pci:v00008086d00004232sv*sd00001306bc*sc*i*
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

Re: Intel Centrino 6205 Driver Support on Cent OS 5
Thanks for the reponse. Sorry for the late reply, my laptop is at work.
The device ID is 8086:0082 I think. It doesn't seem like it's listed? I see 8083, 8084, etc but not 8082, but it seems like they should be in the same iwlwifi family of drivers? I'm not entirely sure why this isn't working or if it's even drivers then. I have turned on the network manager, is there anything else obvious that I have missed? Or does it seem like the drivers below are not included?
Thanks
I will include my output just in case that helps and I'm reading it wrong

Re: Intel Centrino 6205 Driver Support on Cent OS 5
The device is defined by 8086:0082.
I can confirm that device is not supported by CentOS 5.11 --
It is possible to obtain support for that particular device by making use of the kernel-lt package available from The ELRepo Project --

Re: Intel Centrino 6205 Driver Support on Cent OS 5
Hi,
Thanks for the response.
I am going to give the VirtualBox route another go to see if I can get performance good enough on here. If it does not work enough I will go the kernel-it route for WiFi.

You could also try the built-in KVM virtualisation that comes with CentOS 6.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.
