Dell PowerEdge T20: Unable to detect on board network card with CentOS 5.5

Post by mahtheo » 2016/09/16 16:11:13

I'm having issue to detect te on board network card for my Dell PowerEdge T20. In fact when I install Centos 6 on the server, I can detect and et get my network card work fine. But when I install the CentOS 5.5 it is impossible to detect the network card.

Can someone please help me solve this issue?

Thanks.

First why would you try to install CentOS 5.5 when the "current" CentOS 5 is 5.11. Second, why would you try to install CentOS 5 at all now given that it goes end of life in approximately 6 months time and there will be no more security fixes for it.

If you must use CentOS 5 use the latest 5.11 as that will have newer device drivers in its newer kernel and your unsupported network cards might be supported. Better still, don't use 5 at all.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.
