Bind 9 Master zone
Re: Bind 9 Master zone
That's because your named.hold file is not syntactically valid. As far as I know, you must have an SOA section at the start. The one record that you quoted doesn't look right either.
Re: Bind 9 Master zone
The named.hold file I have is just a copy of what nosebreaker told me to do, at the top of this post, I do not know what the correct syntax is or what is meant to be in the files to make the dns resolve all hostnames back to the server ip address, so I can only follow the examples given to me. I have even purchased a kindle book called Pro Bind and DNS but by the time I read that will be far too long to work out what I am doing here.
Thank you for your continued help it is appreciated.

Bind 9 Master zone
CentOS also provides dnsmasq.
If this meets your needs, it is much easier to configure.

Re: Bind 9 Master zone
Good O'Reilly BIND books:
* "DNS and BIND" (5th Ed.) By Cricket Liu & Paul Albitz
* "DNS & BIND Cookbook" (1st Ed.) By Cricket Liu
The cookbook is full of examples.

Re: Bind 9 Master zone
does anyone know how to configure dns like this or am I attempting something totally new?
Re: Bind 9 Master zone
I am still quite stuck on this, ordered another book DNS & Bind 5th Edition, but really need to sort this out before it will arrive, 2 week wait :-(
Does anyone know any good linux administrators I could pay to sort this out?
Thanks
