latex under mediawiki

Post by sigbert » 2011/02/23 12:42:03

Hi,

i have installed mediawiki on my centOS 5.5 and enabled the math extension to have math formulas available. However, I get an error message when I enter in the wiki some .... stuff. The error with centOS is known in the mediawiki community; they suggest to copy /root/.texmr-var/web2c/latex.fmt to wiki/images/tmp where the pictures are generated. The solution works, but I'am wondering

1. since I'am running several wikis, should I really copy into each wiki the latex.fmt? Is there no other solution?
2. why can I find under the /root account latex format files at all?

Thanks in advance

Sigbert

Don't know, and no such file exists for root on any of my systems. Does /usr/share/texmf-var/web2c/latex.fmt work for you?

Hi,

there is no such file: /usr/share/texmf-var/web2c/latex.fmt . I would have to copy it by hand which should actually not be necessary.

Some more info: If I do a "su apache" and call latex then it asks me for "/var/www/.texmf/web2c/latex.fmt". However, copying latex.fmt at this location did not solve the problem: latex worked now but mediawiki still does not generate formulas :-(

However, due to more problems, I decided to give up on centOS and to switch to debian squeeze.

Thanks a lot Sigbert

You are welcome, and good luck on Debian.

For the sake of future searchers:
$ rpm -qf /usr/share/texmf-var/web2c/latex.fmt
tetex-latex-3.0-33.8.el5_5.6.i386
