configure script arguments for x86_64 builds?

Post by gdenton » 2008/06/06 16:55:59

I have a x86_64 system and am wondering what arguments to specify to configure scripts to build 64-bit libs.

Scripts probably vary but is there a general rule? Also, is "--libdir=/usr/local/lib64" the way to have them put into the local lib dir?

I've grep'ed through a number of scripts and Makefiles outputs and see things like "host_triplet = x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu" and such but don't see any "-m64" flags.

Can anyone offer any advice? Thanks.

Never mind.....I just discovered the "file" command and looks like the default (i.e. no explicit x86_64 like args) produces a 64-bit lib. Thanks.
