kernel-debug-devel for centosplus failed dependencies

Post by kirkande » 2008/07/07 17:42:15

I have this message and I am looking for the rpm to resolve it. Any ideas?
error: Failed build dependencies:
kernel-debug-devel = 2.6.18-92.1.6.el5.centos.plus is needed by ocfs2-2.6.18-92.1.6.el5.centos.plus-1.3.9-0.local.el5.x86_64

This is what I have installed:
[root@newamd64 ocfs2-1.3.9]# rpm -qa kernel*
kernel-2.6.18-92.1.6.el5.centos.plus
kernel-devel-2.6.18-92.1.6.el5
kernel-2.6.18-92.1.1.el5
kernel-devel-2.6.18-92.1.1.el5
kernel-2.6.18-92.1.6.el5
kernel-devel-2.6.18-92.1.6.el5.centos.plus
kernel-debug-devel-2.6.18-92.1.6.el5
kernel-xen-devel-2.6.18-92.1.6.el5.centos.plus
kernel-headers-2.6.18-92.1.6.el5.centos.plus

I tried using yum install kernel-debug-devel-2.6.18-92.1.6.el5.centos.plus
and it comes back with nothing to do.

here is my uname -a
[root@newamd64 ocfs2-1.3.9]# uname -a
Linux newamd64 2.6.18-92.1.6.el5.centos.plus #1 SMP Thu Jun 26 12:18:07 EDT 2008 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Thanks in advance,

Kirk

Looking on my local mirror site (Index of ftp://centos.zanker.org/centos/5.2/centosplus/x86_64/RPMS/) I see:

It appears that the CentOS Plus debug kernels have not been built.

After having a discussion with a colleague, I was reminded that the CentOS Plus kernel is never built in the debug variety.
kernel-debug-devel = 2.6.18-92.1.6.el5.centos.plus is needed by ocfs2-2.6.18-92.1.6.el5.centos.plus-1.3.9-0.local.el5.x86_64
As ocfs2-2.6.18-92.1.6.el5.centos.plus-1.3.9-0.local.el5.x86_64 is not a CentOS supplied product, I would suggest that you contact your supplier for advice.

kernel-debug-devel for centosplus failed dependencies

Post by hughesjr » 2008/07/07 21:30:06

I do not produce those files for centos.plus kernels, and debug is set to zero in the kernel spec file, so I can not provide them.

OCFS2 is in the linux kernel, though it is not enabled in the current plus kernel.

I do not know where the spec file that built that kernel module came from, but I don't think that this package should be required and it seems like a problem with the spec file.

Are you saying that I would need to compile the module for it or that it is already there and I should not have to do anything except start using it?

As Johnny said, OCFS2 is not enabled in the CentOS kernel (including the centosplus kernel). You can try changing the OCFS2 option to M (module) and build it. For details on how to build kernel modules, please see http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/BuildingKernelModules .
