CentOS 5.4 hangs in install

Post by Palisandr » 2010/01/12 16:48:14

Dear experts,

This is the first time I see this error after multiple installs of CentOS on other DIY systems. Shortly after install process starts it hangs at the following screen (see file attached). Since the last message is about agpgart, could it be related to the graphics card? Although, when I select "text install" it hangs at exactly the same point. The same hardware (listed below) worked with WinXP, Win7 and just for test purposes I have installed Ubuntu 9.10. Install of Ubuntu went very smooth.

What can be a problem?

Thank you.

The forum attachment function is broken. You will either have to post a link to a graphic accessible elsewhere, or transcribe the text. Might try the LiveCD to test the hardware.

I noticed problems with image attachment.

It hangs right after:

Linux agpgart interface v0.101 (c) Dave Jones
Serial: 8250/16550 driver $Revision: 1.90 $ 4 ports, IRQ sharing enabled

So, perhaps an IRQ problem. Some boot options such as noprobe, irqpoll, and/or pci=routeirq might be worth trying.

SOLVED.

Thank you for your help, pschaff! Your suggestion moved me in a right direction. I disabled serial port - install process went a little further, but again got stuck. Checked for BIOS updates, applied the latest one - and happily installing CentOS now.
