Thank you for taking the time to help me.. I really appreciate it.

I guess the GPU has nothing to do with the screen brightness since I installed the kmod-nvidia repo, restarted, and nothing. (unless I had to do something else after installing the repo)

I really need to reduce the brightness when running on battery, it just comsumes the battery quickly without reducing the screen brightness.

I saw this on GNOME Power Management Manual

"Some sliders or option boxes may be disabled if the gconf policy keys are
not writable.
This allows administrators to lock-down the actions that a user can select."

How do I make the gconf policy keys writable?

Is there anybody out there:

(1) who runs [i]CentOS[/i] on a [i]Macbook Pro unibody[/i]
(2) who runs [i]CentOS[/i] with a [i]Gnome[/i] GUI on a laptop
(3) who understands the internals of [i]Gnome[/i] configuration (in particular the [i]gconf policy keys[/i])

and would be willing to help the OP, please? :-?

but I don't know how to use it..
