[RESOLVED] open folder in the same window

How do I set folders to open in the same window? I have tons of folders/windows open all the time and it's too crazy...
I have set it before but after reinstalling I cant remember how I did it and I have searched every setting I can find.
Please help before I have pulled out the last of my hair! Thank you!

It depends. There are more than one GUI file manager application. Each desktop environment tends to have their own. I use none.

Anyway, the filemanager should have a settings/configuration somewhere. If you tell which tool you do use, then there is much better chance for someone to pop in and tell how to configure it.

I am using the Gnome desktop, Nautalis file system, and Xwindows.

In Nautilus, go to Edit->Preferences->Behavior and then select (check) Always open in browser windows. Close and start Nautilus again. That should do it. :-)

That worked... I had tried that before and it didnt do what it did this time but it may have been that I had set something else which affected it.. anyway... Thank you very much! :-D

How can I enable this Edit->Preferences->Behavior and then select (check) Always open in browser windows setting with gconftool-2 ??

I tried the following commands and none of them are putting a check mark on the "Always open in browser window"

gconftool-2 --config-source=/home/user1/.gconf/apps/nautilus/preferences/always_use_browser true
gconftool-2 --config-source=xml::/etc/gconf -t bool -s /apps/nautilus/preferences/always_use_browser true
gconftool-2 --config-source=xml::/home/user1/.gconf -t bool -s /apps/nautilus/preferences/always_use_browser true
gconftool-2 --config-source=xml::/home/user1/.gconf --recursive-list / | grep browser
gconftool-2 --direct --config-source xml:readwrite:/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.defaults/ --type boolean --set /apps/nautilus/preferences/always_use_browser true

I need to do this on hundreds of Centos servers.
