IBM Server x3630M4 Midel 715809F : Raid Controller not detec

Post by shekhar@f1nashik.com » 2014/10/19 13:56:23

Dear All,

I am trying to install Centos 5.4 & 6.0 on IBM Server x3630M4 model 715809F with A ServeRaid M5110 Raid COntroller from LSI ( Megaraid).
IT fails to detect the Raid Hard disks. Probably because the driver for the above raid controller is not built into Centos5.4/6.0.

Is there any way in which I can integrate the driver during installation? Also would the Red Hat Linux driver work with Centos? I tried searching but did not find any specific driver for Centos on IBM site.

Help / Suggestions welcome. My server installation is held up and I am running out of time.

For a start, don't use ancient obsolete releases to do the install. 5.4 dates from September 2009 and 6.0 from November 2010.

Current releases are 5.11 and 6.5 (shortly to be 6.6). Try those first. If you still don't get anywhere then post the output from a rescue boot of the command lspci -nn | grep -i raid
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.

Thank you for prompt response. Will try out the newer releases. The Software vendor was not sure whether the S/W will work on newer release hence insisted on this version.

The "software vendor" needs to get a clue! Running unpatched operating systems is an invitation to get hacked and running things that are that old is just asking for it.
