After P2V my linux can't boot over the esx please help

Post by narezzi » 2011/06/26 21:15:36

Hello all

Today I manage to convert my linux server to a virtual

Linux was at HDA and now over the esxi is sda

What I had tried so far

# boot from CD and type
linux rescue

# Once the rescue enviroment is running
chroot /mnt/sysimage
rpm -q kernel
cd boot
mv initrd-.img initrd-.bak
mkinitrd /boot/initrd-.img
grub-install --recheck /dev/sdX

details my linux is on LVM partition

Message that I m getting is

No Volume groups found
Volume group "VolGroup00" not Found
Kernel panic - not syncing

Please any idea how to resolve ?

Welcome to the CentOS fora. Please see the recommended reading for new users linked in my signature.

Seems your P2V conversion did not properly replicate the LVM configuration. Please boot from the installation media in rescue mode and show
fdisk -l
vgscan
lvdisplay
pvdisplay
