Thanks for the suggestion Alan, but no - that does not work.

Would it be safe to manually install the packages using rpm and forcing them?

I just don't want to break anything. The only error message now is the one about the conflict of the php.ini file - but surely it would be replaced anyhow with the new PHP5?

I wish I had another box to test on - but unfortunately I don't, and this is getting to be a bit of an urgent situation because I had to upgrade some software that requires MySQL 5.

There would be no harm in trying a yum remove command as you will be presented with a list to review before being asked for your consent.

My advice is to avoid the --force or --nodeps flag to the rpm command until such time as all other options have been exhausted.

Ensure you have a validated backup before you start . . . Good luck.

Thanks - in the end I did remove the PHP packages, and then installed them using CentosPlus. Things went mostly well, although there were some sites that in the end, needed some surgery to get them back working correctly. OSCommerce enabled site comes to mind.

After that, I decided to upgrade httpd from CentosPlus. I regret doing that. Constant segfaults and mysql connection problems. In the end, I downgraded httpd from the CentosPlus package.

Thank you very much for your thoughts, suggestions, and tips.

Ian

Sometimes you win -- sometimes you loose. ;-)

However, you've now reached a satisfactory conclusion to this issue -- I hope.

Unfortunately not completely - but the present problem probably deserves a new topic/thread.
