Mail to root alias - rewrite To:

Post by pennrabb » 2009/03/02 01:23:26

I have set up an email address (me@mydomain.com) at the end of the alias file to receive root mail. However, while it does divert the mail to that address, the To: still reads root@mymachine.mydomain.com, and an external mail server I'm sending to only knows me@mydomain.com, so of course it fails. How can I force it to change the envelope the same as the email adress in the alias file?

masquerading is the keyword you need. How to do it depends on what mta you are running, ie: sendmail, postfix, exim, other.
