Complier

Post by paduanow » 2009/05/12 23:20:48

I am newbe using Linux and have a software project to download firmware on hard drive in a advanced
RAID system. The OS is Centos 4.4 (RHEL 4) with 2.6.19 Kernel, everything is 64 bit.

Can anyone recommend a complier and where to get it?

And when you finish that, or even before, update to the current CentOS-4 release of 4.7 which has numerous security and bug-fix patches to 4.4.

Another issue is that even the CentOS-5 kernels are only 2.6.18 series:
# uname -r
2.6.18-128.1.10.el5

You do not really have a CentOS system at all with that kernel. Have you considered trying CentOS 5.3?

Shortcut for compilers/libraries:
# yum grouplist | grep Devel
Development Libraries
GNOME Software Development
Java Development
KDE Software Development
Legacy Software Development
X Software Development
Development Tools
Web Development
# yum groupinstall "Development Libraries" "Development Tools"
Other groups are optional.

Welcome to the CentOS fora.

This is what the OEM started with, so I really don't have control of changing anything.

I've already completed my code and project.

But I do wanta say this forum kick butt!!
