[SOLVED] Installing RPM / PKG files for RSS Perl script on CentOS/Bluequartz system

Postby Zoro » 2010/07/29 23:59:15

Our server is a CentOS/Bluequartz Nuonce 4.8 server.

Our volunteers have a new project of creating HTML web pages stored locally on our server from external RSS feeds they choose to include.

We chose RSS2HTML Perl Parser.
Also, there is another variation of the same Perl script. If there is another Perl script, please let us know.

In order for the Perl script to work correctly, the following modules must be installed on the server.

XML::RSS
XML::Parser
LWP::Simple

We would like to install these modules without breaking the BlueQuartz administrator GUI or server and would like to know the proper way to install them. We have already tried the following at root level command prompt without success:

Code: Select all

yum install perl-XML-RSS

RESULT: No Match for argument: perl-XML-RSS

Code: Select all

yum install perl-XML-Parser

RESULT: Parsing package install arguments, Nothing to do

If there is an available *.PKG (administration GUI installation) or *.RPM file with installation instructions specific to CentOS, we would be very greatful to learn from it.

We look forward to hearing from the CentOS community. Thank you.

[SOLVED] Installing RPM / PKG files for RSS Perl script on C

perl-XML-RSS is available from RPMforge repo and perl-XML-Parser is in the base distro. Sounds like the latter is already installed.

Thank you for the helpful information in the link you provided.
We followed the instructions and then installed the module like this:

Code: Select all

yum install perl-XML-RSS

We appreciate your patient guidance. Thank you.

Dear friends,

The RSS2HTML Perl Parser program is working great receiving RSS feeds every night through crontab from participating websites in our community.

We would like to create a javascript solution for other websites who want to display our own RSS feed. We currently have a rss.xml file in the root directory available for people to subscribe to. The javascript solution which we would like to implement in order to help others to easily display our content on their websites is XML-RSS-JavaScript.

Since XML::RSS::JavaScript is within the XML::RSS family, we tried unsuccessfully to install it this way:

Code: Select all

yum install perl-XML-RSS-JavaScript

We appreciate any help from the CentOS community. Thank you.
