USB Joystick - LogiCAD3D Magellan

Post by yowmhong » 2005/03/17 18:42:13

Hi,

I am trying to get the Joystick working on CentOS4.

I've tried some setup with the new /udev setup:

cp -a /dev/input/js* /etc/uedv/.....

After these changes, if I use jstest

jstest /dev/input/js0

The program report the "capabilities" of the joystick correctly.
However, when I move the joystick or press the buttons , nothing
happened! There is no event or axis update.

Does anyone know how to resolve this issue!

Thanks

It looks like the joystic module is not enabled in the default kernel configuration.
The following thread provide some guidelines regarding how to build the kernel
from source. BTW, the firewire support is not enabled by default and it can be
enabled after enable the module and rebuild the kernel.

My test machine is still building the kernel. I will let you know how to enable
the joystick support after the new kernel is installed.

The USB Joystick - LogiCAD3D Magellan is not working properly after deploying the recompiled kernel
with the magellan module enabled. Under CentOS 4, the program jstest can detect the USB joystick
but no update events.

Redhat 9 does detect the USB joystick and jstest program can receive the joystick events. However,
the button events mixed up with one of the 3DOF axis event which make the USB joystick useless!
LogiCAD3D provide drivers for RS232 based driver for Magellan and it seems the only way to get
3DOF joystick work under linux!
