Direct rendering with ATI Radeon 7000

Post by nevat » 2005/04/08 08:25:14

Hello All,

I installed CentOS4 ona Pentium 3 800 Mhz, this machine has a ATI Radeon 7000 AGP Video Card.
CentOs detects all hardware and works very well ! But I have one problem, in a terminal:

$ glxinfo
direct rendering: No

I look for radeon module and thats not loaded,

$ modprobe radeon

Oook, loaded.
But... whereis dri and agpgart module ???
Anyone knows ?

Thank you !

It's possible that xorg has dri "turned off".

I have an ati 7500 mobile chip, and it's always worked under xorg on other distros. So, I grabbed the current experimental xorg rpm's for fedora, logged out, restarted X11 (ctrl+alt+backspace) and dri works now.

glxgears showing ~725 fps versus ~250 before.

Thanks for help,

Looking at RedHat I see that some kernel modules are not included because they don't "have the quality to be included in RHEL" (FireWire for example), perhaps DRI is in the same situation.

I found RPMs that instaled new DRI for RHEL4 but them crushed XServer :(

Well, switched to NVidia :)
