Issues with CentOS 4 on several boxes

Post by Arthur » 2005/06/04 21:40:42

Installed CentOS on 2 laptops and 2 desktops.

HP PAVILION ZT3000

Can´t suspend to disk
Can´t halt (system restarts)

USB HDD not mounted (despite green LED flashing and disk spinning)

Palm Pilot Tungsten T3 does not get mounted (cradle connection)

Real Player / Helix cannot reproduce video clips

Anybody else having the same problems?

HP PAVILION ZT3000 - supposed to work well with Linux...
-------------------------------
The suspend to disc and restart problems sound like acpi issues ....

Do you have the latest BIOS from the manufacturer installed?
------------------------------
AutoFS sometimes has issues with mounting USB keys ... where did you check to see if it was mounted?

look in /media

Personally, I turn off AutoFS so I can mount stuff manually.

Try the command:

mount

after plugging in the key. If there is an sda listed, try going where it is mounted.

If there is no sda ... try this:

mkdir /mnt/usbkey
mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/usbkey

Then cd /mnt/usbkey and see if your key is mounted.

Thanks again.

I've tried everything for my external USB HDD (Iomega).
I've mounted every single device inside /dev, to no avail.
hdc corresponds to my built-in DVD-RW, sda to my USB Key (Iomega).

Two questions:
Where else can I try to mount?.
Why does the green LED flash on the external drive, but nothing gets mounted?.

I think that the suspend and sleep function is still not fully developed in linux. I have never been able to put a laptop to sleep in linux.
