Athlon X2 Dual Core

Post by ehlarson » 2005/07/07 01:37:45

Anyone running a dual core Athlon on Centos 4 x86_64?

Does it work, or do we have to wait for a newer kernel 2.6.12 or somesuch? Can anyone estimate when this kernel might be available in Centos 4?

If you're running a single-CPU kernel, and you swap in two CPUs, you'll need to add the SMP kernel.

Note that you can only do this if you're moving to the same CPU class, e.g. single Athlon to multiple Athlons, or single Athlon 64 to multiple Athlon 64.

I found this article about doing the straight swap. That article copyright is from year 2002, but none of the information is really invalid.

Thanks... I got my Athlon X2 box from Monarch about 2 weeks ago, and it is running smooootthh. The only thing I am getting is some powernow-k8: error - out of sync messages.

Otherwise it is the sweetest workstation I have ever used.
