Hi there all.

I am looking for a list of supported NIC's for CentOS 4.6.

I am attempting to installa virtual appliance onto bare metal, and the on-board NIC included with the box I have is not recognised. Now now I need to go and get a NIC, and I was to be sure that it will work when I put it in!

Thank you all in advance
Kieran

I don't quite understand what you mean by "install a virtual appliance onto bare metal"; however 4.6 is an obsolete version, the current CentOS-4 point release being 4.8. Obsolete releases are not supported, nor is it advisable to be installing/running them.

In general, Intel NICs seem to be quite well supported, particularly if you go for a somewhat older design rather than the latest/greatest. See also http://wiki.centos.org/AdditionalResources/HardwareList but that is by no means exhaustive. The upstream documentation may be helpful:
