Wireless cards that work out-of-the-box with Centos 4.6 ??

Post by rasputin » 2008/03/24 18:07:44

After finally getting my wireless networking under Febora 7, I have had to switch my laptop to Centos 4.6 for work reasons.

Are there any wireless cards that work "out-of-the-box" with Centos 4.6 or at least require minimal software installation to work ?? If too much work is required to work, it's not worth it to me to run wireless and I'll just stick to my current wired connection.

Thanks in advance,

Tim

I can't vouch for these sites, but fwiw...

http://www.linux-wireless.com/

http://linuxwireless.org/

The 'org' site has several lists from the perspective of drivers included in current kernels to vendors known to have products that work with current kernels.

Good luck. I'm dealing with a Broadcom issue right now that doesn't look encouraging. Probably I'll end up using ndiswrapper.

I had a similar issue in my Dell Latitude D600 laptop. My solution was to replace its Broadcom wireless card with an Atheros one. Now, it is not only faster but connects much easier.
