Upgrade Apache 2.0.52 to 2.0.63

Post by marathonman » 2008/10/09 00:40:31

I would like to upgrade my Apache web server from 2.0.52, installed from CentOS 4.6 CD, to 2.0.63. For this type of minor-version upgrade the Apache page "Compiling and Installing" says to configure the source tree using the config.nice file left from configuring the old version. I cannot find this file though. I even tried looking on the CDs.

The config.nice file is supposed to be in install_directory/bin but CentOS apparently doesn't install it in the default directory. I can't find a /bin under an apache directory (such as /var/www/ or /etc/httpd/).

How can I find out what source-configuration options I should use so I don't break my site or cause myself unnecessary time-wasting and headaches?

Thanks,
Bruce

Why do you want to upgrade?
Unless you have a good reason, don't.

First, because there are a number of security patches.

Second, my web site isn't complicated at all at this point so I would like to upgrade before I get much farther with it. As long as I have all the modules compiled in as they are with a CentOS 4.6 install and the same directory structure, I can just copy my httpd.conf file.

Shouldn't I be able to find the config.nice file on the computer? Or the configure file on the install disks?

Am I underestimating the chances of breaking something?

Thanks.

What makes you think the security patches have not been applied?
You can't use the version number to determine that.

Thanks, Gerald. I wasn't aware of that.

I assume that means security patches would be handled by yum.

That is correct.
