How to configure a local server only, no internet access

Post by wwright129 » 2009/01/29 00:10:53

Hi,

I was installing CentOS 4.7 using the instructions from rayheffer.com and came to the part where it said to configure this with an internal IP address and DNS name. Now what is tripping me up is the DNS names. Do I need to configure this even though I want this server only to work within my house? And if not how do I set this during the install process to work within my house only?

Thanks in advance,

William

Did you read http://www.centos.org/docs/5/ ?

What does "work within my house mean"?
Your question is really vague.

If this is standalone, no network setup is needed.
If you need to connect to in-house machines, use /etc/hosts instead of DNS.

I'm sorry that "within my house" was to vague, but yes I'm connecting local machines to it only.

Thanks for your answer

William
