how to change hostname in system emails?

Post by kieranmullen » 2009/08/09 16:24:29

I am trying to change the hostname that appears int he email headers sent by the system.

I have changed /etc/sysconfig/network and /etc/hosts and changed the reverse IP to the proper hostname, yet it appears. (I also restarted service systlog restart and rebooted)

Perhaps there is a sendmail / exim config which has the hostname in it as well?

Thank you

Hi there,

Can you post the contents of the files /etc/hosts and /etc/sysconfig/network ?
cat /etc/hosts

cat /etc/sysconfig/network
and
hostname
But yes, one can explicitly set the hostname in the MTA software such as Exim/Sendmail etc.
http://www.exim.org/exim-html-current/doc/html/spec_html/ch30.html#SECID146
and for Sendmail,
define(`confDOMAIN_NAME', `mail.yourdomain.com')dnl
Btw which MTA are you running ?
