Installing on Hercules

Post by padepede » 2006/05/03 16:48:26

I'm looking for any documentation on how to install V4 on a Hercules S/390 emulator. Does this exist anywhere?
Thanks,
Paul

I'll reply to my own post if anyone else needs help. I'm using the latest Hercules on SUSE9.

1. Download the CENTOS distribution for s390
2. Mount the iso file on SUSE, eg. /mnt
3. Fire up Hercules using this configuration file
#

Note that you must create the dasds before you start up hercules
4. ipl centos.ins where centos.ins is

/usr3/rad/tmp/linux390/conf/centos.prm 0x00010480
and centos.prm is
root=/dev/ram0 ro ip=off ramdisk_size=40000
5. I used the ctc driver because I could not get lcs to work
6. Once it started up, I connected using telnet from my SUSE9
7. NFS installation did not work so I used FTP

4 hours later, I rebooted CENTOS and I've been running ever since. It's rather sssslllooooowwwwwwwww but it works and I don't have to fire up my P390 to run it.
