how to increase stack size?

Post by russell23 » 2007/03/19 12:02:30

Dear Centos users,

I am using CentOS-4.3 x86_64 in my machine. I have installed a software called "Autodock" and it requires higher stack size than the normal default stack size of linux of 8kb. I want to increase the stack size and I don't know how to do that. I want to set my stack size to unlimited. Could any one tell me where I have to make change (in which file)? and it would be of great help if somone could provide me what is stack size? Many thanks in advance.

Build your own kernel after grabbing the 16k stack patch from here;

Thank you Lenard,

I will try to build my the kernel using the patch you have suggested. But one thing I want to ask you, can't I make the stack size more than 20k since my Autodock requires minimum of 20k stack size. It would be very nice and helpful if I can increase it to unlimited size. Thank you very muach for your kind suggestion.

Dear Lenard,

I built my kernel using the patch you have suggested me. But my program is not working. It again showing segmentation fault. In the manual of the program, they suggested to make the stack size unlimited. It would be very helpful if you could tell me how to make it unlimited. Many thanks in advance.

What is this Autodock thing???? An 8k or 16k kernel stack is more then enough for almost anything. An unlimited kernel stack is not a good idea, perhaps they mean something else???
