Which to use X86_64 or i386 ?

Which to use X86_64 or i386 ?

Hi everybody

I have IBM x346 with 2 single core Xeon 3GHz
When I installed x86_64, System monitor shows me 4 CPU ...
Did this right ?
Did I must install i386 distribution ?

This is right, the Xeon 3GHz CPU's are dual core.

This is up to you. They only reason would be for compatibility reasons.

Some Xeons have HT so even single core they appear for OS as 2 CPUs.

As for the os If you do not need 64-bit my advice is to stay with 32-bit.

Enabling HT for some server setups, like large disk IO for example, will have an overall negative impact on system performance. Please test your server setup using "ab", "iozone", "fio" or your own metric to validate.
