Dear CentOS users,

I am using CentOS-4.4 in my IBM Laptop. I have a problem with yum. I am posting the errors what I am getting when I ran yum update. I am behind a proxy and I am running ntlmaps for that.

#############################################################################

[root@electron ~]# yum update
Setting up Update Process
Setting up repositories
http://ftp.riken.jp/Linux/dag/redhat/el4/en/i386/dag/repodata/repomd.xml: [Errno 12] Timeout:
Trying other mirror.
Cannot open/read repomd.xml file for repository: dag
failure: repodata/repomd.xml from dag: [Errno 256] No more mirrors to try.
Error: failure: repodata/repomd.xml from dag: [Errno 256] No more mirrors to try.

#############################################################################

But when I type the Ip address of the site ftp.riken.jp in the browser, the page is opening. It shows me there is no problem with the server. What is the problem with my side. If I ping the ip address I could not able get bytes from that site from the shell. Could anyone help me to solve this problem out. Thanks a ton in advance.

Probably the proxy is filtering xml?

Have you configured yum to use the proxy?

Thank you foxb,

Previously I did not mention anything about the proxy configurations in my yum.conf file. I think that was the problem. Once I added this, it is now working fine. Thank you very much.
