CentOS 5.1 x86_64 .iso files do not match posted checksums

Post by Nician » 2007/12/28 08:02:52

I am trying to download CentOS 5.1 for x86_64.

I downloaded a .torrent file for the individual .iso files and successfully downloaded the entire site.

Bittorrent claims that the files are good, but double checking with md5sum and sha1sum shows that ISO's 1, 3, 4, 5, and 6 of 7 all fail. They fail both md5sum and sha1sum.

The sha1sum.txt file contents match the digests posted here:

http://lists.centos.org/pipermail/centos-announce/2007-December/014476.html

(which is linked to from the main page http://www.centos.org under the link "Distro Release Announcement" in "CentOS 5 Releases")

But the updated release notes here:

http://wiki.centos.org/Manuals/ReleaseNotes/CentOS5.1/

Mention that the check sums are wrong:

The CD iso images for the x86_64 architecture released initially were incorrect. CD images 1, 3, 4 ,5 and 6 contained an incorrect timestamp. The master images on central mirror server have been updated with the correct versions. To check that you have the correct version of the images, check the file .discinfo inside each image. The first line should be 1195929648.203590.

So it would seem that the .torrent was updated, but not the sha1sum.txt and md5sum.txt files.

I would suggest posting on the front page the incorrect initial check sums, and updating the md5sum.txt and sha1sum.txt files.

I ran into the same problem. I've downloaded all the iso's via torrent twice now, and both times the checksums for 1, 3, 4, 5, and 6 have not matched the md5sums.txt file.

Fortunately I found this thread and saw the note on .discinfo in the release notes, so I'll proceed with burning disks and installing. But it'd be nice if md5sums.txt had been correct, so I wouldn't have been led to download everything twice.
