Problem with Edit Notifications

Post by pschaff » 2010/01/25 14:20:12

In my moderator duties I use private notifications extensively, particularly to follow threads I'm involved in. It has been my habit to occasionally use the "Edit Notifications" ( https://www.centos.org/notifications.php ) function under the "User Menu" to remove old entries. I had not done this for some time (my bad) and now when attempting to edit I get a long delay, on the order of several minutes, followed by a blank page. This is independent of browser - tried various version of Firefox on Windows, Mac, and Fedora; IE on Windows and CrossoverOffice; Konqueror; and Opera on Mac with the same results I see on CentOS Firefox. Apparently my long notifications list has exceeded some buffer capacity on the server end.

I suspect you need the services of a tame and knowledgeable Webmaster.

Is that an oxymoron? ;-)

No comment. ;-)

However, thinking about your problem . . . Are you able to turn off an individual thread's notification?

If so, you may be able to circumnavigate your "folly" by the tedious step-wise process.

That might work, but not sure I have the time to go back and find enough of those old threads to make a difference without a roadmap to do so.

I'm afraid someone who has access to the xoops mysql database may have to use the ax to clean your "huge" list. :-x

"Mr Old" is the resident CentOS ax / axe (US / UK) -man. But what with his knee trouble, his aim might not be true.

How about asking "Range"?

That sounds like it's probably somewhat more difficult to accomplish than getting a new moderator into the system.

Perhaps Website 2.0 will come along and make it a moot point. :-)

Edit: Following Alan's suggestion in post #4 I have been able to laboriously rectify my folly and empirically determine that the limit that blows "Edit Notifications" out of the water is ~1800 entries! I have worked around the issue and will mend my lazy ways. :hammer: :pint:
