www.centos.org certificate expired

Post by TrevorH » 2010/07/19 12:37:21

Hi guys, since the weekend I have been receiving warnings from Firefox that your certificate is not valid. It expired on 17/07/2010.

Also, the CSS for www.centos.org is linked via HTTPS rather than HTTP. When I went to the front page, the CSS silently failed to load resulting in a less-than-usable webpage (in particular, the drop-down navigation bar becomes almost useless). It was only when I pulled up a forum link in my history that used HTTPS that I got a message indicating that the certificate was expired (and thus could tell Firefox to add an exception, letting me view the site normally).

Apparently, CentOS developers are aware of this. In #-devel IRC, z00dax (Karanbir Singh) said on Sunday:

"yeah, was noticed on friday, orc_orc's working on it"

(orc_orc == herrold in the forums)

This seems like it may be another problem - or at least my drop-down menus are still not working even after accepting the expired security certificate.

Edit:
Menus are now working. Earlier today nothing would show the sub-menus.

That's odd. For me, accepting the certificate and doing a reload of the page was sufficient to go from a broken site to the regular fully functional one. The drop-down menus expand as soon as I mouse over them with no clicking required.

Could it be that your browser cached some of the failures prior to when you added the exception? Try doing a shift-reload on the front page and see if it fixes things. It looks like there are several different support files that're loaded via HTTPS and maybe one failed to load properly.

Welcome to the CentOS fora. Reading FAQ & Readme First is recommended for new users.

https should be used by default. Don't know what DNS would have to do with the problem, and not sure what you mean by fake IP - private IP range using NAT? That works for me.

Sorry to hear that, and hopefully not CentOS pages, but in any case I doubt we can do anything to help there.
