Emergency Mode? What Now?

Post by flyerfocus » 2015/04/27 19:58:50

Hello, Although I've got a few years of general Linux experience under my belt I am a newb to CentOS. I've had my server up for a few months. Last night it stopped talking on the network. I went to the console and that was black with no signs of life. So I powered the machine down and restarted. Now I come up in emergency mode. I looked through the log but can't really tell what the problem is from that. What's the best approach here, short of a reinstall?

Thanks in advance.

You need to go back up through the server console log and look for errors. I don't think you get dumped to emergency mode unless it has a problem - like failing to boot completely or an fsck failing...
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.
