CentOS equivalents of Ubuntu

Post by patrikmellq » 2015/05/30 17:59:14

Hello i am new on this forum.
I have a Ubuntu gaming computer and now want to try CentOS.

First i stop at Fedora and ask some simple questions - they told me CentOS have some Long Time Support - same as Ubuntu LTS that last for 3 to 5 years.
So now i am here :-)

1) Does CentOS have Long Time Support Distro?
2) Does CentOS have built in firewall as Ubuntus UFW?
3) What is the name for updates/upgrades and installing software - Ubunut has apt-get?
4) Does CentOS have sudo command for root tasks or is it SU?

Many Thanks Patrik

Firstly, I've replaced your topic with a more meaningful subject line so you're more likely to get answers. You should look at the links in my signature, but at the very least look at http://www.catb.org/esr/faqs/smart-questions.html

I know that you stated on Fedora forums that English isn't your first language, but generally, vague subjects like, A few questions, or Help, will just be ignored.

CentOS support matches RedHat Enterprise Linux support, which is actually going to be longer than Ubuntu's LTS.
It has a built in firewall but you'll have to configure it. On CentOS 6.x it's iptables and on 7x I think it's firewalld, like Fedora.
It uses yum as its equivalent of apt. You can look at the CentOS wiki for some useful articles about it.
You can use root with su or sudo.
New users should check the FAQ and Read Me First pages
