No Sound after deinstallation of VLC
No Sound after deinstallation of VLC
Hello and greetings from Germany to all here.
I've set up a new centos 7 system before 20 days
Sound is realized via a usb-bluetooth dongle to bluetooth boxes.
First, it worked fine with vlc and with the kde tools at system settings.
But the browsers firefox and chrome weren't able to bring any sound to the boxes.
Because VLC has frozen my system multiple,
so that I must power off /power on it, I deinstalled VLC
(I googled, that others have also this problem).
After that I installed SMplayer.
But now, there is totally no sound ....
Does anyone know a solution or a way to find the fault?
Best regards,
Holger

Re: No Sound after deinstallation of VLC
Which version of VLC you've been installing? Nightly should work fine without anny issues. They've even added 4k ui support
Do not take life too seriously. You will never get out of it alive.
Re: No Sound after deinstallation of VLC
Hi Johansoll,
at this time, I have installed no vlc.
(After the last post), I have done a new try, again my kde was so frozen after a few minutes,
It is possible to log in via ssh as root and type ,reboot',
but than the ssh connection brakes and nothing works --> power off, power on.
I don't know, which version of vlc it was, I used yumex,
it was yesterday, so I think, it was version
2.2.4-1.el7.nux
Funny thing:
After a few reboots, the system sounds are suddenly working again.
But no sound at browers, no sound at smplayer ..
Greetings,
Holger

OK!
I was the fool ....
All works fine (without VLC).
I didn't see, that there is a option to chose the sound card with each app at the mixer
And these option was switched wrong ...

Re: No Sound after deinstallation of VLC
What "mixer" is this? I strongly suggestion the sound problem I'm having might be resolved by it.
Thanks much.
Thanks much.
Re: No Sound after deinstallation of VLC
OK.
I killed my Cent OS (because of problems with openGL and AMD ).
Now I set it up newly, and again I had problems to find the correct switch:
LMB on the speaker at the right bottom corner of KDE.
The ,mixer' opens
There is a slider for Google Chrome, Firefox, Event sound, each app which runs actually and is generating sound.
And now:
RMB on the small speaker symbol below the slider.
Than: to sub menu: move
Than you can choose the correct device.
It was set to the on board sound device, not the Bluetooth speakers.
although I have shifted the Bluetooth speakers at all lists to the top....
If I use linux and I get in problems, I always think, horror, I must compile a new kernel ....
(Which I'm not able to do ...)

Re: No Sound after deinstallation of VLC
Thanks, Kaengo. But I'm running gnome3... and I don't even know if I have that "mixer" installed. Do you know the name of the executable and/or the name of the rpm-package it comes in?

Re: No Sound after deinstallation of VLC
Thanks. That was one of my guesses. Unfortunately, when (in gnome3) I click on "Applications -> Sound & Video -> PulseAudio Volume Control" it pops a window which only says, "Fatal Error: Unable to connect to PulseAudio: OK". The only other thing in that window is the "Close" text/button.
So if that is the thing which allows one to set the device etc. for various sound apps, then it isn't going to work for me.
Odd thing is, if the app I want to use has a way to select the device to use for that app-- e.g., audacity and vlc-- then I can simply set it to that and the sound works for that app.
