Since there is a package called gnome-shell I am guessing that your question is really "How do I disable gnome classic"? If so then https://access.redhat.com/documentation ... assic.html says how.

The context is that I did some cleaning of packages and I removed gnome-shell by accident, but it does not provide the option to switch to it in the login screen (in the little cogwheel). I can only assume the package that configures gnome shell to be listed in the login screen is separated from gnome-shell package (in fact, I reinstalled it). Indeed, I read the article and verified that it is working with:

Code: Select all

$ gnome-shell --mode=user -r &
Unless the user is supposed to add to the login screen by "hand", in which case the article you linked is enough.

Pretty sure the gnome-shell package is required in order to use gnome3 at all, in classic mode or in whatever the non-classic mode is called.
