localhost login prompt after installation<SOLVED>
I just installed CentOS 7 and all went well. After rebooting, i got a prompt to enter localhost login: ..
I entered my username i had set up and the password during installation. Next i was at another prompt. I dont know what to enter at the next prompt. I dont know how to get to my desktop from there. I was stuck on that dos screen.
Oh ya....im not too much of a newbie at Linux, but i have come across some distros that ask for the same prompts and i dont know what to enter after my username and password at the next prompt.
Can someone help me out with this. I would love to start using this OS.

Re: localhost login prompt after installation
Did you install a desktop?
If you run 'startx' does X start?

Can someone who knows the answer to getting me to desktop please help me out here. I get to a login prompt on a dos screen and i login as user or even root and tried yum startx but to no avail. Just got a message that there is no such command. I got updates but just cant figure why i cant get to desktop. If someone knows a command i need to enter to get to desktop, then please let me know.

Re: localhost login prompt after installation
You were asked if you installed a desktop.
You did not answer that question.
It looks like the answer is"no".
If you did not, I would suggest you start over from scratch, as installing a desktop after a minimal installation is more difficult for the inexperienced than just reinstalling.

Re: localhost login prompt after installation
Hello Gerald. On the install dvd, there was no option that i could see for a desktop to install. I thought it would install it automatically. I downloaded CentOS 7 and set it up during the install. I set up user, root, partition and swap and location but there was nothing about any specific desktop to install. Everything seemed ok till the first boot, then just a dos prompt. I will try as you say and install over again and hope for the best.
Thanks
Thanks

Read the software selection section of the installation manual.
